ment blocks. Its bulldozers
are also at work on two
parks in the city.
JNF planners are also
preparing the next stage of
the highly successful Timna
Park project north of Eilat.
It will link the Timna
tourism area with the
planned new Eilat Interna-
tional Airport by means of a
forest studded with recrea-
tional facilities.
The forest, which will ex-
tend over hundreds of acres,
will provide a good deal of
employment for local people
— always an important con-
sideration, Mr. Rivlin said.
Further north, the JNF is
working on the existing road
from Eilat to Mitzpe Ramon.
The intention is to make it a
scenic route.
Mr. Rivlin said the JNF
played a key role in creating
Mitzpe Ramon's dramatic
panorama walkway along
the rim of the Makhtesh
Ramon, a large crater of
multicolored splendor.
Similarly, in Carmiel in
Galilee, the recent folklore
festival, estimated to have
been attended by 300,000
people, was made possible,
said Mr. Rivlin, by the JNF's
work on the spacious am-
phitheater, where most of
the performances took place.

To Meet At U.N.
Jerusalem (JTA) — Soviet
Foreign Minister Eduard
Shevardnadze has sent a
personal message to Foreign
Minister David Levy, saying
he looked forward to
meeting Levy. at the annual
U.N. General Assembly ses-
sion in New York in
September, and called for a
comprehensive diplomatic
dialogue.
Israeli sources said the
message indicates that Mr.
Shevardnadze intends to
hold substantive discussions
with Mr. Levy, not merely a
courtesy encounter during
the General Assembly.
Alexei Chestakov, head of
the Soviet consular mission
in Tel Aviv, who recently
returned from Moscow, per-
sonally delivered the mes-
sage, urging Mr. Levy to
"prepare thoroughly" for the
encounter.
After talking to Mr. Levy,
the Soviet diplomat flew to
Cairo to brief Gennady Ter-
rasov, the Kremlin's senior
Middle East trouble-
shooter, who is visiting the
Egyptian capital.
Mr. Levy and his aides
said they were gratified to
receive the message.
