Beautiful Music
For Cancer Foundation
CARLA JEAN SCHWARTZ
Local Columnist
D
r. Martin and Linda
Weissman held a
musical fund-raiser
at their Birmingham home
on July 28 for Michigan
Cancer Foundation (MCF).
The evening was co-hosted
by Linda's father, Dr.
Herbert Bloom and his
wife, Judge Alice Gilbert.
Fedora Horowitz, accla-
imed pianist with the Lyric
Chamber Ensemble, per-
formed at this special eve-
ning. "She played every-
thing from Mozart, Chopin
and Rachmaninoff to George
Gershwin. She is an inspira-
tion to listen to," said Dr.
Bloom.
Dr. Bloom, an oral
surgeon, has been volunteer-
ing for MCF for 45 years. He
has held various positions
with the organization in-
cluding chairman of the
board of trustees.
The patrons at the event
are members of MCF's
Circle of Fellows. Members
of this group donate $500-
$1,000 per couple to attend
three or four annual events.
Some of the patrons includ-
ed: Dennis and Roberta
Weber, Richard and Lois
Hamburger, Henry and
Marsha Gordon, Shirley
and Jerry Shagrin, Harry
and Jan Herkowitz and
Roz and Ken Gitlin.
The Weissman home was
transformed into an elegant
cabaret for the evening. The
floral, pastel tablecloths
with pink candlestick lamps
were perfect for intimate
dining and musical enter-
tainment. Linda Weissman
gave each female guest an
Irish linen handkerchief
upon leaving. Mrs.
Weissman is co-owner of A
Touch of Lace, a store spe-
cializing in imported linens
and lace, which will be mov-
ing into the 555 Woodward
Building at the end of the
month.
Sydell and Doug
Schubot were also at the
event and will be hosting an
Dr. Herbert Bloom and Judge
Alice Gilbert
upcoming MCF event on
Sept. 22 at their newly
expanded store, Jules
Schubot Jewellers.
