new asphalt floor has
been laid in the Jew-
ish Community
Center's Rosenberg Recrea-
tional Complex and will be
ready for the Center's North
American Maccabi Youth
Games Aug. 19-26.
During the Youth Games,
it will be used for gym-
nastics and table tennis
competitions.
The indoor facility will re-
open to the public for tennis,
basketball and jogging on
Sept. 1, according to Dr.
Mort Plotnick, JCC exec-
utive director. It was opened
to the public last December
but was closed during the
summer for floor replace-
ment.
The facility has five tennis
courts, two of which can be
used for basketball. No work
was needed on the one-tenth-
mile running track which
encircles the courts, Dr.
Plotnick said.
The floor's replacement,
done at the expense of
Cadillac Asphalt Paving Co.,
is expected to resolve the
flooring problem which
delayed the original opening
of the $1.75 million facility
by four months last year.
"The old surface was not
acceptable." said Dr. Plot-
nick. "It never stopped bub-
bling."
He said the final coatings,
including court markings,
will be painted on the courts
after the Youth Games.
