Louis I. Weber, B'nai B'rith Member Louis I. Weber, 71, of Farm- ington Hills, died Aug. 1. Mr. Weber was the former president of American Realty and was vice president of Barry M. Klein Commercial Realty. He was the past presi- dent of Ivan S. Bloch Lodge of B'nai B'rith, a member of Oakland Century Lodge of B'nai B'rith, B'nai B'rith Lodge in Israel, former chair- man of the B'nai B'rith Foun- dation, board member of the Jewish National Fund, active in the Allied Jewish Cam- paign, member of the Silver- man Post, Jewish War Veterans, and board member of the Hillel Foundation at Wayne State University. He leaves his wife, Florence; sons and daughters-in-law, Sanford and Marcy of West Bloomfield, Stephen and Lyn of West Bloomfield; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Weber and Fred Petok of Southfield; five grandchildren. Anne Y. Ellman, Hadassah Member Anne Y. Ellman, 90, of Southfield, died Aug. 4. Mrs. Ellman was a classification analyst for the United States government. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a member of Hadassah. She leaves daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Alfred Alexander of West Bloomfield, Inez and Milton Mersky of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. Inter- ment in Florida. Lubavitch Rabbi Dies at 66 New York (JTA) —Rabbi Jacob Hecht, 66, a promi- nent spiritual leader and member of the Lubavitch Chabad movement whose voice was known to tens of thousands from his Sunday radio programs, died Aug. 5. Rabbi Hecht, the official interpreter for the Lubavit- cher rebbe, Menachem Schneerson, during the rebbe's discourses, was best known for his "Anti-Shmad (Conversion) Campaign," in which he was successful in deterring many Jews, par- ticularly young people, from converting away from Judaism. The campaign was featured in his weekly radio program, "Shema Yisroel," which was broadcast Sunday afternoons on WEVD. Rabbi Hecht was rabbi of Congregation Yeshiva Meir Simcha HaCohen of East Flatbush, and was for 44 years executive vice presi- dent of the National Com- mittee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education. Rabbi Hecht was also dean of Hadar Hatorah Rab- binical College for Men and Machon Hanna Institute of Higher Learning for Women in Brooklyn.
