PROMISED

Blessings

Continued from preceding page

You want to build schools, clinics and
community centers for
Russian Jews in Israel?

especially when they are
bestowed upon us so often
that we come to expect them
as a continuing right. "I am
entitled," we hear some peo-
ple say. But to what are we
really entitled?
If we think life hasn't been
good to us, look around.
Remember to appreciate your
health, your loved ones, your
homes, your comforts and con-
veniences, your loyalties and
privileges. An old proverb
says, "I complained I had no
shoes until I met a man who
had no feet."
Despite inflation and the
spiraling economy, we should
give thanks that we are the
richest people on earth, rich
enough to share our abun-
dance with the less fortunate

GREAT!

Just one question:

Before you do, who's going to prepare the land?

The Only Answer:

The Jewish National Fund.

JNF is accelerating its land reclamation activities in Israel's
Galilee, Jerusalem and Negev regions to accommodate
thousands of Russian Jewish immigrants. Help us develop the
land at this crucial time. Support the Jewish National Fund's
OPERATION PROMISED LAND campaign.

Ekev:
Deuteronomy
7:12-11:25,
Isaiah 49:14-51:13.

Jewish National Fund is the land.
Help us fulfill the promise!

in other parts of the world
who languish in hunger and
misery. America's foreign aid
program is not charity. Sen-
ding food and technological
assistance to underveloped
lands is simply our religious
duty as children of the one
Father of us all.
Remember the giant slogan
on a poster for Detroit's Torch
Drive for United Fund giv-
ing? It showed a boy carrying
an injured little fellow in his
arms. He looks up wistfully
and says, "He's not heavy,
mister, he's my brother!"

The perfect blend
of fine shops

Extending a helping hand
to those who have lost their
way in the world, be they in
India, Vietnam, Ethiopia,
Black Africa or Israel, is not
a heavy burden. These are
our brothers of the human
race.
In our pursuit of goods and
gains, profits and pleasures
and comforts, is it possible we
have lost something infinite-
ly more precious? What has
happened to our values in our
affluent society? Have our
standards of morality and
honor been chipped away by
the corroding cynicism and-
permissiveness that pervades
our times? Have our stan-
dards of ethics and decency
been corrupted in public life?
"Beware, lest thou forget
the Lord thy God when thou
hast eaten and are full and
has built goodly houses and
has dwelt in them . . . beware
lest thy heart be lifted up and
thou forget the Lord thy God."
So spoke Moses, the ancient
servant of God, for an ancient
time.
He spoke also for all time.
When we take things for
granted we lose our happiness
and our freedom. The person
who cannot be grateful for
anything is a person of
despair.
Let us remember what
Moses taught our forefathers
for ancient days, so we can
still profit from his insights
today. "Remember that it is
the Lord your God who gives
you the power to get
wealth."
