Victoria Catlin:
No essays under a painting.

mother, that acting might be
a good activity for her
daughter.
"I don't know whether it
was because I had an overac-
tive imagination or because
I was shy," said Ms. Catlin,
a native of Kansas City, Mo.
"The stories change a bit
over the years, but I tend to
think it was a little bit of
both."
After this advice from her
teacher, Ms. Catlin's parents
enrolled her in a theater
group, and so began her ac-
ting career.
While she continued ac-
ting for most of her
childhood and adolescence,
Ms. Catlin temporarily said
goodbye to the theater dur-
ing junior high and high
school. After growing up in a
politically active family, she
