'The Sexual
Intellectual'

DAVID HOLZEL

Special to the Jewish. News

O

ver the past 30-odd
years, Dave Pandres
Jr. has published
works with titles like, Quan-
tum Unified Field Theory
from Enlarged Coordinate
Transformation Group and
On Certain Invariants of
Symmetric Cartesian Ten-
sors.
If readers haven't run into
these works at their local
book store, a new work by
Mr. Pandres and distributed
nationwide may be easier to
find. It's called The Sexual
Intellectual, and its 104
pages contain quotes of
famous people about — what
else? — sex.
Mr. Pandres and his wife
Irene are the only long-time
Jewish residents of
Dahlonega, an old gold-
mining town of 3,000 people
in the Appalachian foothills
north of Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. Pandres has taught
physics and mathematics at
Dahlonega's North Georgia
College for 19 years, which
explains why most of his
published works deal with
the theoretical physics that
is his passion.
Mr. Pandres says he's
always had a good memory
and a fondness for quotes.
Many of the 270 quotations
in The Sexual Intellectual —
he has another 300 socked
away in case his publisher
asks for a second volume —
he just pulled from his
memory. The rest he found
during six months of resear-
ch.
In compiling his book,
Pandres drew most fre-
quently from Woody Allen
(whose "Bisexuality immed-
iately doubles your chances
for a date on Saturday
night" is one of Pandres'
favorite quotations), H.L.
Mencken, James Thurber
and Mae West ("I've been in
more laps than a napkin.").
Mr. Pandres says he tried
to keep the quotes "more or
less tasteful." The book
originated with an idea to
sell T-shirts with quotations
at country fairs. Mr. Pandres
soon realized that too many
quotes were floating around
and that he had to narrow
his field to one topic. Reason-
ing that sex sells, he pursued
the theme, and concluded
what he really had was a
book in the making.

David Holzel writes for our
sister publication, the Atlanta
Jewish Times .
