el Fink's sacrifice
fly in the top of the
seventh inning
drove in the tiebreaking run
as Hauser & Baur Custom
Builders defeated English
Gardens, 11-6, July 24 at
Sports Park to win its first
35 and Over West Bloom-
field Softball League cham-
pionship.
Sheldon Rosenberg got a
key pinch-hit in that final
inning and Howard Taxe
belted a two-out, two-run
single to boost Hauser &
Baur to a more comfortable
three-run lead. Roger Lesser
and player-coach Carl
Brown followed with run-
scoring singles to give H&B
its final winning margin.
Brown, with four hits, and
Lesser, with three, led the
H&B offense in the contest.
The all-Jewish 16-man
team, which ended the
regular season 16-1-1 and
swept the playoffs 3-0, had
finished second in both the
regular season and the
playoffs its first two years in
the league.
"This year, we added a few
key new people that pushed
us over the hump, said
Brown, referring to short-
stop, Fink, pitcher Keith
Levick and left-center fielder
Wally Sampson.
Levick, who pitched the
championship game, joined
Brown on the team's pit-
ching staff to give the team
more depth at that position.
Fink and Sampson enhanced
the team's air-tight defense
— "Nothing got past Mel,"
said Brown, noting Fink
turned an unassisted double
play in the title game.
"We made all the easy
plays defensively and a lot of
the hard ones throughout the
season," said Brown, in-

playoff game, Hauser &
Baur defeated DWF & Asso-
ciates, 11-2, and followed
that with a 6-5 semi-final vic-
tory over the Traveling
Wilburys to set up the title
game.
