Visual, Hearing Impaired
Programs At The JCC

The Jewish Community
Center's Senior Adult Depart-
ment at Maple-Drake is
developing programming for
visually impaired and hear-
ing impaired adults. A
Visually Impaired Senior
Adults program has been
providing educational work-
shops dealing with per-
sonal adjustments to the loss
of vision.
This series is presented by
the Greater Detroit Society
for the Blind and will con-
tinue throughout the
summer.
Beginning Sept. 10, the
senior adult and physical
education departments will
sponsor a weekly exercise
class for the visually im-
paired, taught by Sylvia Rit-
chie. In addition, a peer sup-
port group is planned.
Transportation for all
senior adult programs may be
available to residents of West
Bloomfield and Bloomfield
townships through the
Center's arrangement with
S.M.A.R.T. (Suburban Mobili-

ty Authority for Regional
Transportation). Interested
participants should reserve a
ride at least one week in ad-
vance by calling Margo
Weitzer, 661-1000, Ext. 314.
A peer support group for
hearing impaired senior
adults is also forming at the
Center. Meetings will take
place the first Thursday of
each month, beginning Oct.
4. This group will offer social
programs, speakers, caption-
ed films and the opportunity
to share experiences.

Young At Heart
Hears Faxon

Congregation Beth Achim's
Young At Heart will have an
election meeting noon Aug.
16 at the synagogue. A dairy
luncheon will be served. State
Sen. Jack Faxon will speak on
seniors' concerns.
