Kate Shoenfield,
U-M Assistant
Kate Shoenfield, age 93,
died in Glastonbury, Conn.,
July 25. She was raised in
Detroit and graduated from
Cass Technical High School.
She was the widow of Allen
Shoenfield, science editor of
the Detroit News for 35 years.
They lived in Ann Arbor for
more than 60 years, where
she was executive assistant to
the chairman of the Depart-
ment of Surgery of the
University of Michigan
Medical School from 1942 to
1962.
Mrs. Shoenfield moved to
Glastonbury in 1985 to be
near her daughter, Judge
Frederica S. Brenneman.
She was a life-time member
of Hadassah and a founding
member of the Ann Arbor
Business and Professional
Women's Association. She
had a flair for writing and
some of her short stories were
published.
