Toddler Day Camp Is A Blast
At Agency For Jewish Education

he Agency for Jewish
Education on Twelve
Mile Road in
Southfield is the day camp
center this summer for 68
children ages 18 months to 5
years. Director Carol
Gale plans activities to keep
the children busy and happy.
Many of the summer
events are theme-oriented.
Some of the weekly themes
are the seashore, holidays,
senses and dinosaurs. For
the backwards unit, the
children ended the week by
making upside down cake.
The children enjoy crafts,
cooking, swimming and the
new play equipment.
"We have two pools — one
for the splashers and one for
the children who do not like
to be splashed," says Gale.
She adds that the kids love
going through the sprinklers
on big wheel bicycles — like
an auto wash —and then
"pumping gas" at the play
gas station. On July 19,
Gale's lap was the gathering
place for the youngest set.

During the school year the
site is a nursery school and
extended day care area. "We
are going from a Jewish
nursery school to a Jewish
day care center," says Gale.
Gale notes that the Agency
for Jewish Education has
many children with working
parents from several com-
munities including Birm-
ingham, West Bloomfield,
Commerce Township,
Southfield, Huntington
Woods and Oak Park.

SENIOR DANCERS
Belle Freidman is a resi-
dent of Hechtman Federa-
tion Apartments in West
Bloomfield. She had so much
fun recently listening to
pianist Marlene Nessel and
clarinet player Sam
Barnett perform klezmer
music for seniors at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center, she danced
all the way home.
About 50 seniors attended
the event on July 16. Spotted
in the crowd were: Sam and
Mary Gorlick, Anna Pritz,
Gertrude Pritz, Ruth
Klein, Ruth Cohen and
Bea Shavrein.
Some of the same active
seniors drained summer
intern Hildy Hoffman, 19,
and senior programmer
Marilyn Wolfe during a trip
to the Ann Arbor Art Fair.
"We were exhausted,"
Wolfe said. "But they kept
on going."
