United Way for Southeastern Michigan 833-9425 A $6,444 Senior Center Developer Grant from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B has been awarded to the Jewish Community Center of Washtenaw County. Monies from the grant, ef- fective Oct. 1, 1990, will be used to develop a senior center at the JCC. The JCC now provides approximately 10 hours of activities, in- cluding a Thursday luncheon accompanied by lectures, movies and performances and a modified exercise class as well as a Monday series of classes on various cultural topics followed by lunch and a bridge class. Yehudit Newman, JCC Senior Coordinator, said she is interested in using the grant money to expand cultural arts programming and for outreach to seniors who are socially isolated or have the potential to become so because they are new in town, have poor health or have recently suffered the death of a spouse. Newman said Ann Arbor is seeing a large influx of Jewish seniors many of whom come from larger Jewish communities and are accustomed to being serviced by Jewish agencies. For information on senior programs, call Nancy Margolis, 971-0990. The pro- grams are open to all regardless of race or religion.
