COCO'S CORNER "Chet
Bogan puts out a lot of licks
on his trumpet with those
Wolverine Jazz All-Stars. I
heard him last week at Shain
Park in Birmingham, where
Pop took me to also visit with
my many puppy patter pals
and listen to their ruff ruff
rhythms?'
A SIGN AT Shain Park
says, "No Dogs Allowed" and
the police station is just
across the street . . . But Bir-
mingham's finest must have
dogs of their own because
they pet Coco and others (he
thinks he's human and
doesn't like me to call him a
dog).
Chet Bogan retired from
dentistry two years ago and
now devotes more time to his
music abilities, playing and
arranging . . . The crowd at
Shain Park loved his Dix-
ieland jazz and the fine
vocalizing of songstress "Dix-
iebelle" warbling tunes to
which the folks could relate
and even digging way back
for "Sam, You Made The
Pants Too Long."
Ed and Dorothy Rich, so full
of pride for their son Mert
Rich, co-producer of the TV
show "Cheers" with another
former Detroiter, Byron
Pollack . . . Mert was in
England this summer writing
for NBC there.
Children dancing in the
street, women dancing
together also to the happy
tunes of Chet Bogan's
Wolverines . Ben Katzman
looking even better than
when he entertained folks
behind the drums, Hy Pritz,
Meyer Kowal, Annette
Goldberg, Oscar Bank less
than a week after his opera-
tion, Saralee Lober, Cecile
Kerner, Annette and Irving
Goldberg, Mike and Sylvia
Beresh.
The Wolverines have taped
eight programs for public
television nationally, and
have three record albums to
their credit . . . The group
plays at many major jazz
festivals around the country
plus concerts for the nation's
jazz clubs.
Many will remember Chet
Bogan and the Wolverines
from the Montreux Jazz
Festival here (five times) and
Super Bowl XII that was held
at the Silverdome .
