retired University of Chi-
c cinnati professor Richard L.
Miller. Miller also spoke at
the Cooperstown sym-
posium.
Other weekend highlights
will include the Rawlings
Sports Caravan, which will
show how baseball bats are
made and include a spots
equipment museum, plus
baseball clinics by ex-Tiger
stars Gates Brown and Jim
Price.

Gilbert Eliminated

Wimbledon, England —
Brad Gilbert of the United
States, the last remaining
Jewish singles tennis player
in this year's Wimbledon
classic, bowed out in the
quarterfinals July 4, losing
to eventual runner-up Boris
Becker of West Germany.
The No. 2 seeded Becker,
who lost the championship
Sunday to Stefan Edberg of
Sweden, eliminated the
seventh-seeded Gilbert, 6-4,
6-4, 6-1.
Edberg, the 1988
Wimbledon champ, had
defeated Israel's Amos
Mansdorf earlier in the
tourney.
Elise Burgin of Baltimore,
Md., and her partner,
Rosalyn Fairbank of San
Diego, Calif., were elim-
inated in the third round of
the women's doubles by
Steffi Graf and Gabriela
Sabatini, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
