NJCRAC Slates
Chernin Award

New York (JTA) — The
National Jewish Commun-
ity Relations Advisory
Council has announced the
establishment of the Albert
Chernin Award, to mark the
15th year that the retiring
Chernin has served as exec-
utive vice chairman of the
organization, and the 35th
year since the start of his ca-
reer in the Jewish commun-
ity.
The annual award will be
presented to an American
Jew whose work best ex-
emplifies the social justice
imperatives of Judaism,
Jewish history, and the pro-
tection of the Bill of Rights,
particularly the First
Amendment.
Candidates for the award
will include lay and profes-
sional leaders of Jewish
communal life, rabbis, and
public officials, including
members of Congress and
the judiciary.

Dr. Louis L. Friedland, 81,

c of Southfield, died July 2.

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe
the yahrzeits of the following departed friends, with the
traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish and
studying of mishnayos.

Forestry Gets
Strong Push

Jerusalem (JTA) —
Whatever the current ten-
sions between Israel and the
United States, there is one
area in which the ties bet-
ween the two countries are
flourishing as never before:
forestry.
Three Jewish National
Fund foresters will be spen-
ding the next year at Ameri-
can universities, under the
auspices of the U.S. Forest
Service, and the two sides
are discussing ideas for
teaming up to help other
countries.
