It was the Jewish communi-
ty of South Africa out of
whose camp came the few
non-black voices who spoke of
liberation for blacks. Those
were the allies of the black
movement. But within the
black movement, as most
other movements, feelings
usually go to short cuts
or sweeping generalizations.
But we do what we do because
it's right, not because we ex-
pect recognition or reward or
even acknowledgement. You
still have to do what's right,
but it makes it harder."
Bikel also speaks out about
the possible dangers of the
reunification of Germany.
