Unexpected company caught you with your pantry down on groc-
eries? This dessert is especially ideal for such situations.

die's. It surfaced again last
week in the Washington
Post's Style section.
The issue centers on
whether the Washington
area's only kosher Chinese
restaurant, Rockville's
Moshe Dragon, is all it's
cracked up to be. Last
summer, the restaurant's
kosher supervisor, Michael
Mayer, told the Rabbinical
Council of Greater Washing-
ton that the eatery was serv-
ing patrons non-kosher
duck.
Owner Lenny Ung, an ex-
boat person, denied the
charges, and ended up at
Holy Cross Hospital for
stress after questioning by
the rabbis. Mayer, who
claims Ung was faking his
ailments, was fired by the
rabbis, who, says the Post,
"have put out the word that
he is a crazy, potentially
violent Vietnam veteran
who hates all Asians " And
the Board of Rabbis's ex-
oneration of Ung of all
charges has infuriated other
rabbis.
Said Rabbi Sam Fishman,
executive director of the
D.C. area's Jewish Campus
Activities Board, "These
guys are living 50 years
behind the times."
Meanwhile, business is
down at Moshe Dragon,
which has wisely scratched
duck from its menu. And
Mayer is working part-time
in Baltimore, "barely," he
says, "making ends meet."

skim milk
11-ounce can mandarin
oranges. well drained

1 tbsp.

toasted almonds,
slivered
sherry

Prepare vanilla pudding according to directions on the package or
make your own pudding using skim milk. Cool.
Before serving, fold in the drained mandarin oranges and the
sherry. Serve in individual glass dishes garnished with the toasted
slivered nuts.

"Ridiculous" and "utter
nonsense" is Eric Breindel's
description of U.S. Jewish
leaders' efforts to excuse
black South African leader's
efforts to equate his country
and Israel.
In an op-ed column in the
New York Post, Breindel,
editor of the tabloid's edito-
rial page, said Mandela's
position on Israel is similar
to that of the African Na-
tional Congress, which has
attacked Israel's
"aggressive expansionism,"
argued the existence of a
"Tel Aviv-Pretoria Axis"
grounded in ideological af-
finity, and charged that
Israel's "Zionist Nazism" in-
tends to "exterminate" Pa-
lestinians.
Breindel also noted that,
since being released from
prison, Mandela has met
three times with PLO
chairman Yassir Arafat.
