FRIDAY. JUNE 22. 1990

Naomi Loebl and Nathan Miller endorse a check to Operation Exodus for
Allan Gelfond of the Jewish Welfare Federation

Youth Get Involved
In Operation Exodus

Youngsters are joining their
elders to raise funds on behalf
of Operation Exodus for the
rescue and resettlement of
Soviet Jews in Israel.
In Birmingham, Lauren
Riback, 91/2, and Allie
Gunsberg, 9, are operating a
lemonade stand every Sunday
at the corner of Charrington
and Sutton Place through Ju-
ly until they go to summer
camp. To date, the children
have raised $19.59 for Opera-
tion Exodus.
Nathan Miller and Naomi
Loebl of Huntington Woods,
both 9 1/2, held a carnival in
the Miller backyard May 27
raising $332.10. More than
50 people participated in the
event.
Emily Grey of Farmington
Hills made a donation from
her babysitting money.
Other youth campaign ac-
tivities include distributing
tzedaka boxes to Jewish sum-
mer camps, elementary-age
children and to members of
Jewish Experiences For
Families (J.E.F.F.). A city-
wide teen fund raiser is
planned for the fall.
With the growing numbers
of Soviet Jews arriving in
Israel, Operation Exodus ef-
forts will continue here with
phonathons geared toward
contributors of $1,000 to
$4,999, 9 a.m.-12 noon and
6:30-9 p.m. June 24 and
5:30-9 p.m. June 26 at the
United Hebrew Schools
building. Edythe Jackier and
Michael Feldman are
phonathon chairmen.
The Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion's Young Adult Division
raised $118,143 for Opera-
tion Exodus at its June 13
meeting. Forty-eight young
adults attended the event,

chaired by Dennis Bernard
and David Victor in the
absence of YAD Exodus chair-
man Lisa Sommers.
To contribute to the Opera-
tion Exodus Campaign or to
receive an Operation Exodus
tzedaka box, call the Jewish
Welfare Federation, 965-3939,
Ext. 121 or 149.

tivities to explore skills.
