On its own, Telad has pro-
duced "Anna and Lena", a
30-minute documentary of
the story of the Rosnovosky
sisters, musicians from the
Soviet Union who were
recently reunited in Israel. It
was sold to N.O.S. Hilversum
in Holland and Television
Suisseromande in Geneva,
Switzerland. A filmed concert
at Massada with Zubin
Mehta was sold to Brazil and
in the future will be shown on
BPS in the U.S.
Dany Paran, director of
marketing and programming,
says his company is negotiat-
ing with BBC and Granada
TV for a documentary on
King David's influence on
modern art, literature and
music in the 20th century.
Other segments in the series
will feature prominent
figures in the Bible who will
be examined according to the
influences they exerted on
20th century life.
But while Telad finds itself
for the present a part of all
three segments of the media
market, this may soon
change.
Telad's studio and cable TV
are perfectly matched for the
moment as the new cable TV
stations will be restrained
from seeking advertisements
until 1991. However, only if
approved by the Ministry of
Communications, the Cable
TV council and the Knesset
Finance Committee, and
depending on the economic
climate of the country at the
time, they too may also be
able to solicit advertising. If
so, they would become direct
competitors of the second
channel and Telad's relation-
ship with them might change.
Another possibility is that
Israel TV, complaining that it
won't be able to compete with
a commercial station, might
also ask the government for
the right to solicit ads.
"The eventual result of the
establishment of both cable
TV and the second TV station
will be that for the first time
the media industry will
become a business and not
simply a monopoly by Israel
Television," says Paran.
