"CELEBRATION 40"

LUBAVITCH FOUNDATION DINNER & CONCERT

CELEBRATING THE 40TH YEAR OF WORLD JEWISH LEADERSHIP OF THE
LUBAVITCHER REBBE —MAY HE LIVE LONG, HAPPY, HEALTHY YEARS.

On Sunday, September 9, 1990, one thousand men and women will gather at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel in Dearborn at an elegant black-tie community-wide Dinner and Concert honoring a number
of remarkable individuals who have made commitments to endow buildings on "The Synagogue
Campus of Living Judaism."

The Campus is a complex of educational institutions which will arise on our 40-acre site on Maple
Road in West Bloomfield, adjoining the J.C.C. Very simply stated, it is the most ambitious and ex-
citing project in the history of Jewish Detroit, and will feature a day-care center, a Russian-Jewish
cultural center, a museum of Jewish art, a Torah public library, a rabbinical college, a Yeshiva and
day school, a 12-acre park and other institutions.

ewish ownership fig-
ured prominently in
the results of last Sun-
day's Valvoline Detroit
Grand Prix race for Indy
cars.
The downtown Detroit
gala, which drew almost
48,000 fans Sunday, saw
Michael Andretti lead all
the way to victory, with
Bobby Rahal finishing se-
cond.
Andretti drives for the
Newman-Haas racing team,
in which actor Paul
Newman is Carl Haas'
silent-partner co-owner.
Rahal drives for the
Galles-Kraco racing team, of
which Maury Kraines of
Kraco is co-owner.
Both Newman and
Kraines were on hand for
the weekend of racing.
Newman finished 11th
Saturday in the Sports Car
Club of America (SCCA)
Trans-Am race, which was
held on the Grand Prix cir-
cuit. The veteran actor, who
was driving in only his se-
cond rate this year, piloted
an Olds Cutlass Supreme.
The race was the season's
fourth.
Newman also finished out
of the top 10 last year at
Detroit.
Andretti, who started the
race from the pole position,
almost lapped Rahal, who
finished 18th last year, his
first driving for Kraco.
However, taking home
$107,312 for second place in
the $1-million purse race
didn't totally thrill Rahal,
who has finished second in
two of the previous four
CART-PPG Indy car races
this year. "I'm tired of
finishing second," he said,

j

citing fuel concerns as the
reason this time. "But we
had good pit work from the
crew and ended up hanging
in there."
Andretti won $134,306 as
the first American to cap-
ture the Detroit Grand Prix
in its nine-year history. ❑
