- Shalom's sisterhood
held a creative in-
stallation June 4 with a
bridal theme. After the lun-
cheon and installation, there
was a fashion show of bridal
gowns modeled and original-
ly worn by the members.
President Helen Herman
made the analogy between
her presidency and mar-
riage. "It's making a com-
mitment." Herman is
beginning her second two-
year term as the sisterhood
president. She referred to
her officers — Linda
Lublin, Helene Robbins,
Ann Barth, Madelyn Liss,
Jeanette Eizelman, Susan
Chomsky, Susan Kosloff,
Marcia Tanzman, Bess
Lipson and Diane Voight
— as bridesmaids.
Alicia Nelson, Rabbi
David Nelson's wife, was the
acting chairperson of the
day, since chairperson Mar-
cia Tanzman was unable to
attend. "Now I know what it
feels like when the news an-
chor reads the news and
someone else does all the
work," remarked Alicia
Nelson.
The social hall was dec-
orated for the occasion. A
chuppah greeted the guests.
There was a table of bridal
memorabilia. Some of the
nostalgic items included:
Bessie Penn's wedding hat
from 1934, Helen Her-
man's gloves and garter
from 1948, and many wed-
ding photos including Zelda
Levitt,1939, Gigi Kannon,
1946, Liz Kannon, 1979,
and Rochelle and Richard
Rosenberg, 1979. On the
the luncheon tables, wed-
ding cakes from Sylvia Lee
served as centerpieces Liz
Kannon and Judy Zim-
merman modeled their own
wedding gowns. Some of the
other beautiful bridal
models included: Debra
Beren, Linda Lublin,
Reva Nelson, Helene
Robbins, and Alana
Voight. Someone quipped
that the brides at this occa-
sion did not have to worry
about the in-laws. .
Sally Margolis' gin rummy
group of Bea Casman, Ida
Richmond, Betty Brower,
Ida Raimi and Ceil Shubin
enjoyed the luncheon and
the piano accompanist
Arlene Gorbaty.

TORAH DEDICATION
Doris Blechman enjoyed
the festive walk through the
streets of Oak Park from her
uncle Max Young's home to
Machon L'Torah on 10 Mile
Road. The procession was for
the Torah dedication in
honor of Max Young and in
memory of Rosi Young. A
police escort, dancers and
singers led the way. The
Torah was carried under a
chuppah. This was a family
affair for many of the
celebrants including: Doris
and Fred Blechman with
children Lisa, Stephanie
