Soviets Film
Documentary
About Israel
Tel Aviv (JTA) - An offi-
cial Soviet film crew return-
ed to Moscow last week after
six weeks of shooting footage
for a documentary on Israel,
to be shown on Soviet televi-
sion and in movie houses.
The Russian filmmakers
spent 40 days to get five
hours' worth of scenes from
daily life in Israel. It will be
edited down to 90 minutes.
The film crew concen-
trated on kibbutzim, archi-
tecture, science and
agriculture. They did not
deal with the administered
territories or the intifada.
"People in the Soviet
Union already know that
you have a war with the
Arabs and that Israel is ag-
gressive," explained
cameraman Oleg Ivkin.
"They don't know it as a
land with a combination of
socialism, capitalism and
communism," he said.
The finished documentary
is also expected to be shown
in Israel.
