Headline Was
Insufferable

It was bad enough that you
chose to give front-page ex-
posure to the proposal "of a
panel of Reform rabbis" that
homosexuals be admitted to
practice in the rabbinate
("Panel Endorses Gays As
Rabbis," June 1).
Your choise of the headline
was insufferable; rather than
blatantly suggesting that
they endorse the practice, you
might have used the word
permits.
lb headline the acceptabili-
ty of this aberration is to add
fuel to the fires of anti-
Semitism. We have enough
problems without headlining
this on the front of your cir-
culation boxes.

and their Saudi supporters in-
sist on ein gvul (no limit or
boundary) because they
would like to have it all.
Livneh should tell Syria, Iraq
and Saudi Arabia yesh gvul to
your unwillingness to come
and sit down with Israel and
negotiate peace for peace.
Livneh tells the Jews of
America to command the
Israel government how, when
and with whom to talk. He
wants them "to appeal to
President George Bush to
take a more active role in pro-
moting negotiations," mean-
ing to put pressure and more
pressure on Israel. Where is
Bush's pressure on Saudi
Arabia, Iraq and Syria?
Do you hear any Arab
"moderate" leader protesting
the killing of Jews? Are there
any Peace Now movements
among the "Palestinians' or
in any Arab country? Of
course not.
Jewish organizations disap-
prove of the media using dou-
ble standards when it comes
to Israel and Jews in general.
This double standard comes
from within. What a disgrace.

Continued from Page 6

I enjoyed Philip Slomovitz's
"Purely Commentary" arti-
cle on the late Sammy Davis
Jr. ("Sammy Davis Could
Have Been Orthodox," June
1). He was an individual of
rare talent. His contribution
to Jewish causes are well
known and his adoption of the
Jewish faith was a
courageous move on his part.
However, I feel we are only
getting part of the story from
you. Davis' marriage to his
present wife was performed
by the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
After he contracted cancer,

there were rumors that he
reverted to his special Chris-
tian faith. When receiving a
special award, part of the ac-
ceptance speech contained
the following: "I thank my
Lord and savior, Jesus
Christ."
Now, did he die a Jew and
was he buried a Jew? At his
televised memorial, Jesse
Jackson and Gregory Hines
gave eulogies. There were no
Jewish clergy present to my
knowledge. Correct me if I am
wrong.
