The resolutions adopted at
the summit played to
Arafat's fear that Israel is
planning to dispossess Pa-
lestinians in the territories
by settling Soviet Jews
there.
But the Baghdad summit
was unable to translate its
concerns into action. The
only aspect of the delibera-
tions with a scent of action
were the threats uttered by
Iraq's President Saddam
Hussein agaipst Israel.
Two weeks after the gunn-
ing down of seven Palestin-
ian laborers by a lone Jewish
gunman touched off a new
wave of violence in the area,
Arafat came up with nothing
more than still another
resolution pledging Arab
support.
He could do little more
than tuck it into the drawer
with past resolutions. There
was somewhat more consola-
tion to be found in the $25
million check that was
Saddam Hussein's contribu-
tion to the intifada.

Israeli Lab
May Have Found
Allergy Control

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Scien-
tists at the Hebrew Univer-
sity' s School of Phar-
macology in Jerusalem have
succeeded in discovering the
human body's allergy-
response mechanism, accor-
ding to a report in the Israeli
daily,Ma'ariv.
The discovery, said the
report, will allow resear-
chers to propose methods of
stopping allergic reactions
such as running nose,
coughing, red eyes, asthma
and hay fever.
A team of researchers
headed by Hebrew Univer-
sity Professor Francesca
Levy-Shefer and Harvard
University Medical School
Professor Frank Austin, said
Ma'ariv, has developed a
special method of discover-
ing the operating
mechanism of the mast cell,
located in various body
tissues and which releases
several substances, in-
cluding histamines, which
cause allergic reactions.
The research findings may
provide researchers with a
scientific direction in which
to produce medicines which
will prevent the allergic
reaction process.
