Special Opportunities and
Support, a social group pro-
viding opportunities for
young adults with special
needs, has started at Temple
Israel under the auspices of
the Caring Community
Committee.
The program will provide
special needs individuals
with positive social ex-
periences, which will enable
them to become more in-
dependent and develop a
higher degree of confidence
and self-esteem.
The goal is to provide these
young adults with a chance to
make friends and plan ac-
tivities and events in which
they can participate each
month.
S.O.S. functions with paren-
tal involvement and support
of a therapist.
At meetings, activities are
organized to encourage and
stimulate positive social in-
teraction. Appropriate social
skills are developed and
reinforced.

Temple Israel Hosts
Cancer Group
A cancer support group at
Temple Israel will be run by
cancer patients for cancer pa-
tients. Its purpose is to pro-
vide a support system in an
atmosphere of warmth and
familiarity.
The group will meet for 8
weeks and discuss their ex-
periences in a totally non-
clinical setting. Topics of
discussion will include the ef-
fects of cancer on their
religious beliefs, control or
denial, family reaction, the
medical community, anger,
and other subjects that may
be cause for concern.
After completion of the first
8-week session, a new group
will be formed. For informa-
