[ A Message to the Jewish Community of Detroit From the Jewish Welfare Federation and State of Israel Bonds The historic challenge before us — the rescue and resettlement of Soviet Jews among our people — has presented the Jewish community of Detroit with a unique opportunity. To achieve our goal will require the marshalled resources of every organization, every institution, every individual who cares deeply about the future of Israel and our Jewish People. The Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit and the Detroit Israel Bond Campaign share a common purpose: to bring home and absorb our brothers and sisters from the Soviet Union. Through our contributions to Operation Exodus, Federation is helping get the Jews out of the USSR and into Israel, where basic needs of the newcomers must be met for the first year — needs such as housing, language instruction, day care for young children, job retraining and necessities of life. Through our investments in Operation Aliyah, Israel Bonds is directing badly needed financial resources into the construction of housing and school classrooms to accommodate the growing numbers of immigrants. Bonds Will enable the creation of jobs and industries — vital to the future of Israel and its people. Taking part in both of these efforts — Operation Exodus and Operation Aliyah — is a double mitzvah. Our charitable gifts are rescuing and providing shelter to our fellow Jews leaving the Soviet Union. Our investment dollars are completing the task, helping them resume lives of dignity and strengthening the Jewish State. Once again, the Jewish community of Detroit is united in common cause for the Jewish People. As we witness the epic homecoming of this century, we ask every individual to participate generously in both Operation Exodus and Operation Aliyah. Mark E.
