Hoffman Chooses
Division II School

STAFF REPORT

M

atthew (Matt) Hoff-
man, ace of the Nor-
th Farmington High
School basketball team the
past three seasons, has ac-
cepted a full scholarship
from Lake Superior State
University in Sault Ste.
Marie.
Hoffman, who averaged
20.5 points, 8.5 assists and
4.5 steals last season for the
Raiders, chose the Division
II Lakers despite being
recruited by such Division I
schools as Wayne State and
Central and Western Mich-
igan Universities. Lake
Superior is a member of the
Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference.
Matt's father, Doug, said
Lake Superior will afford his
son a better balance between
basketball and academics
because "When you play
Division I college basketball,
the game is your life.
"In Division II, Matt will
be able to keep things in
perspective, get a quality
education and have fun"
playing basketball.
Matt Hoffman concurred,
noting that, even though he
could play Division I ball, "I
am going to be more comfor-
table at Lake Superior
State."
Hoffman earned numerous
honors for his play, in,
eluding a fourth-team all-
state selection and first-
team Jewish High School
All-American by the Na-

tional Jewish Post and Opi-
nion. ❑
