Yavneh Academy Hosts
Cantorial Concert

Yavneh Academy, the
Reform Jewish Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit, will
present a fundraising concert
entitled "The Voice of the
Cantor," 7:30 p.m. June 10 at
Temple Kol Ami.
The concert will feature
Cantors Gail Hirschenfang,
Harold Orbach and Norman
Rose. They will be accom-
panied by Zina Shayrhet on
piano and Mack Pitt playing
the clarinet.
Cantor Hirschenfang has
performed throughout the
United States and Canada,
and in Jewish communities in
South Africa and the Soviet
Union. She has performed
with the Buffalo Philhar-
monic Orchestra. Cantor
Hirschenfang is the cantor at
Thmple Beth El.
Cantor Orbach has had
operatic experience in addi-
tion to serving as cantor of
Temple Israel. He shared solo
responsibilities with

McHenry Boatwright in the
world premiere of Dave
Brubeck's "The Gates of
Justice."
Cantor Rose began his can-
torial career at Temple Israel
in Akron, Ohio, and spent five
years at Temple Beth Zion in
Buffalo, N.Y. He studied for
three years at the LaScala
Opera School in Milan, Italy.
He serves as cantor of Thmple
Emanu-El.
Zina Shayrhet, pianist,
graduated from the Moscow
Conservatory of Music and is
the musical director of Tem-
ple Israel.
Mack Pitt, clarinetist, is
known in the Detroit area for
orchestral and solo
performances.
The concert will benefit
Yavneh Academy, which is
housed in the Jewish Center
in West Bloomfield. An
afterglow will follow.

UJC Will Hear
Alfred Taylor

The United Jewish
Charities and its Federated
Endowment Fund will meet
11:45 a.m. June 13 at Temple
Beth EL.
The luncheon meeting will
include the election of officers

UJC annual report also will
be presented.
Alfred H. Taylor, Jr., chair-
man of the board of the
Kresge Foundation will
speak. Taylor, who has been
with the Foundation for 16
years, became its chairman
and chief executive officer in
1987. He will discuss
"Philanthropy . . . A Partner-
ship Matter."
There is a luncheon fee. For
