A customer has an
ancient complaint.
One of Metropolitan Detroit's
Most Beautiful and Exciting
Restaurant-Lounges
box of matzot on the counter.
"This you call matzot?
They're so hard I need
already an ax to break them!"
"Just a minute!" said the
grocer. "If our ancestors,
crossing that terrible dessert
in Egypt, had matzot like
these they would be damn
grateful!" . . . "Sure they
would," sneered the customer.
"When they were crossing
that desert, these matzot
were fresh!"
VIDEO CRITIQUE . . . by
Michael Dembs . . . In Coun-
try . . . "Bruce Willis chose
this 'small' movie as his
follow up to Die Hard and it
bombed at the theaters. He's
a Vietnam vet who's having
troubles getting over his ex-
periences in the war. But the
movie is actually about his
niece (Emily Lloyd) and how
she copes with life in a small
southern town. As a 'small'
movie it tries to tackle a 'big'
subject and comes up short.
At the end the characters
travel to the Vietnam monu-
ment in Washington, D.C.,
and this got my tear ducts
flowing. But that was more
for the monument than for
this meandering character
study."
In Country was the movie
Variety Club was supposed to
preview for a fund-raiser here
in Detroit . . . Instead, the
group lucked out by getting a
real sleeper, Look Who's
Talking.
YOU'RE GETTING older
. . . if you remember rolling
up your napkin after a meal
and putting it in a silver ring,
to use again at another
meal.
