vited to enter William Beau-
mont Hospital's eighth an-
nual "Race For Every Pace,"
8:30 a.m. June 9 at the Royal
Oak hospital.
Participants of all ages may
choose to walk or run in
either a two- or four-mile
course.

Torah Registry
Said To Deter
Thefts

New York (JTA) — Follow-
ing recent Torah thefts in
the Philadelphia area,
rabbis and lay leaders are
advising synagogues to
register their Torahs and
other holy scrolls as protec-
tion against theft. The ad-
visement follows the arrest
of a suspect in connection
with the theft of 16 Torahs
throughout the Northeast.
"There is little doubt in
our minds that had these
Torahs been registered they
would never have been
stolen,' said Rabbi Em-
manuel Holzer, president of
the Universal Torah
Registry.
Registering a Torah is a
