The Sephardic Community
of Greater Detroit will honor
David Chicorel at a brunch 11
a.m. June 3 at D _ imitri's of
Southfield.
Chicorel has served the
Sephardic and greater Jewish
community over the past
quarter century. He was in-
strumental in perpetuating
the Sephardic community,
serving as president for 18
years and chanting at High
Holiday services.
Entertainment will be by
contemporary/jazz pianist Les
Jones.

David Chicorel
Fred and Miriam Ferber
obtain $1 billion in loan funds
to provide permanent hous-
ing and jobs for the largest
migration of Jews to Israel
since the founding of the
state.
Ferber is a past president of
B'nai David. He was named
by B'nai B'rith Albert Eins-
tein Lodge and Chapter as
Israel Bond "Man of the
Year" in 1985; he helped to
found the local American-
Israel Chamber of Commerce,
and travelled to Prague to
help bring "Precious Legacy"
— Judaic Treasures from
Czechoslovakia — to the
United States.
Ferber is a member of the
Radomer Societies, the
Revisionist-Zionists and the
Sephardic Charities, and a
member of the board of Metro
Detroit State of Israel Bonds.
He is also active on behalf of
AIPAC, Technion and the
Weizmann Institute.
Miriam Ferber is an active
member of Amit Women and
has chaired projects for that
organization. She is also a
member of B'nai B'rith
Women.

Allied Jewish Campaign.

A special youth campaign
will be kicked off May 22 at
the United Hebrew Schools
building. Students from the
Community Jewish High
School will telephone their
peers on behalf of Operation
Exodus. Future activities in-
clude circulating Operation
Exodus tzedaka boxes to
Jewish summer camps and
elementary-age children and
a city-wide young people's
fundraiser in the fall.
Synagogues will participate
on Shavuot with special ap-
peals by their rabbis. Many
will join Jewish organizations
contacting their membership
in phonathons at the United
Hebrew Schools building 1-5
p.m. June 14 and 5-9 p.m.
June 19 and 21.
The Young Adult Division's
board will have a fund-raising
caucus May 23 in the home of
Karen and Michael Egren.

13 in the home of Joel Tauber,
a former Jewish Welfare
Federation president and a

The Women's Division
reported contributions of
$420,250 from 24 workers
during a worker-training
meeting for major donors.
Eighth grade students at
Hillel Day School conducted
a mini-Operation Exodus
campaign, pledging $1 for
each of the 531 students at
the school.

Mike and Mary Must were presented with the Gift of Life Award by
Magen David Adorn board members Grant Silverfarb and Bernard
Edelman at the dedication of the Musts' contribution of a fully-equipped
blood mobile for MDA in Israel. The bloodmobile led the local Walk for
Solidarity on May 6.

Avra Weiss, soprano, will
perform at the installation of
officers for the Women of
Jewish National Fund noon
May 22 at Temple Emanu-El.
Doris Markel will be installed
for the third term as presi-
dent. Aim Barnett, chairman,
Out Reach Committee of the
Detroit Zionist Federation,
will be installing officer.
Weiss is a coloratura
soprano with a bachelor of
music degree with a major in
voice from Wayne State
University. She is a choir
member and soloist at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek, as
well as Temple Israel and
Temple Beth El in Windsor.
Weiss directs the Shaarey
Zedek Youth Choir.

To Be Dedicated
JARC will dedicate the
Hilda Schechter Haverim
Home 2 p.m. May 20. Made
possible with a gift from Jack
and Linda Schechter, the
home is named in memory of
Mr. Schechter's mother. Six
men with developmental
disabilities live in the Oak
Park home.
JARC's twelfth home, the
Florence and Charles Milan
Haverim Home located in
Farmington Hills, will open
later this year. Other JARC
homes are located in Beverly
Hills, Huntington Woods,
Oak Park, Southfield, Plea-
sant Ridge, West Bloomfield
and Franklin.
JARC also operates two in-
dependent living programs
for adults with developmental
disabilities, the Maas Sup-
ported Independence Pro-
gram and the DeRoy Indepen-
dent Living Program.
