COLONY INTERIORS

Chajes Series
Sets Final Concert

The Julius Chajes Music
Fund Concert Series will pre-
sent its final concert of the
1989-90 Season 3:30 p.m. May
20 in the Aaron DeRoy
Theater at the Jewish Corn-
munity Center's Maple-
Drake building. Featured in
this recital will be former
Detroiter, Paul Schoenfield,
pianist, with Lois Hobbs,
pianist, Clifford Billions,
tenor, and Andrew Jennings,
violinist.
Schoenfield, a former stu-
dent of Julius Chajes', made
his New York Town Hall
debut at 18. He has perform-
ed throughout the United
States, Europe and South
America and has appeared at
the Marlboro and Chamber
Music Northwest music
festivals. As a composer he
has been awarded grants from
the Ohio Arts Council, the
Rockefeller Fund, the Bush
Foundation, Chamber Music
America and the National
Endowment for the Arts.
Presently, Schoenfield is a
member of the Gabrielli Trio
in residence at the Universi-
ty of Akron.
Hobbs graduated from the
University of Arizona in
piano performance and has
since been a student at
Blossom Summer Festival
and at the University of
Akron with Schoenfield. She
is a graduate student at the
Cleveland Institute of Music.
Jennings is a graduate of
Juilliard and performed with
the Concord String Quartet.
The Quartet received the
1971 Naumburg Chamber
Music Prize. The ensemble
has performed world-wide
and won Grammy nomina-
tions for two of its 30 recor-
dings. Since 1987, Jennings
has been violinist with the
Gabrielli Trio, associate pro-
fessor of violin at the Univer-
sity of Akron and concert-
master of the Akron Sym-
phony. He is also Associate
Professor of Violin and
Chamber Music at the
Oberlin Conservatory and
has made solo and Quartet
recordings.
Billions has been an
associate professor of music at
the University of Akron since
1978. His career in singing
took him throughout
America, Canada and
Europe. He appeared in opera
in Carnegie Hall.

The program will feature
the music of Schoenfield,
Chajes, Schubert and
Rachmaninoff.
