Bais Chabad of Farmington
Hills.
After moving to Farm-
ington Hills, the Zuroffs
often conducted services in
their home. With the help
of Rabbi Chaim Bergstein,
Bais Chabad began
meeting in the Zuroffs' liv-
ing room before there was a
building.
For the last three years,
Zuroff has struggled with
cancer. First, she was
treated for breast cancer,
and then almost a year ago
she was diagnosed with
ovarian cancer, detected
through a routine examina-
tion by her gynecologist.
She is currently undergoing
aggressive chemotherapy.
Zuroff sums up her feel-
ings in a column she wrote
for the Southfield Eccentric:
"The obstacles sometimes
become giant hurdles and
the bright future occa-
sionally seems unat-
tainable, but most of the
time I am hopeful. As the
days become weeks and
then months, I realize that
I am getting past the
obstacles and I am making
it over the hurdles. I'm get-
ting stronger and I'll get
through this. I am going to
live!"

RARE JEWELS

The house of Harry
Winston, the New York
jewelry company, recently
brought some rare jewels
to Detroit in honor of the
diamond jubilee
anniversary of the Detroit
Athletic Club. Harry
Winston hosted a
luncheon for the press and
devoted clients. Some of
the jewels in the crowd
included: Jo Kessler,
Eleanor Heyman,
Shelley Boschan,
Carolyn Lanyi and Judy
Verona.

HILLEL DINNER
The Hillel Dinner had a
record breaking crowd of
700 who honored Henry
and Mala Dorfman.
Special guest speaker was
Joseph Telushkin. The
chairpeople were: Jane

Sherman, David
Hermelin, Paul Borman,
Barbra Chaitin and
Martin Gene.

Lois Levenson, Sheri

homeless. On June 8,

CANTORIAL CONCERT
An all women cantorial
concert will be performed
on May 20 at Temple Beth
El featuring Gail
Hirschenfang, Rosalyn
Barak and Faith
Steinsnyder Gurney. Co-
chairs of the event are
Gordon Gard and Cathy
Deutchman.

SINAI GUILD
The two male guests in-
vited to the guild's 37th an-
nual installation meeting
arrived late with good ex-
cuses. Bob Steinberg,
president of Sinai Hospital,
was becoming a grand-
father, while Dr. Don Blitz,
husband of Bobbie Blitz
the outgoing Guild presi-
dent, was delivering the
baby. The Guild's new
president is Marta Rosen-
thal. Some of the board in-
cludes: Rosie Schlussel,
Trudy Weiss, Carole
Balcher, Hope Silverman,
Gail Bernucca, Terran
Leemis, Lauren Liss,
Helen Shevin and Sandy
Schwartz.

MOT BALL
The Michigan Opera
Theatre held its fourth
annual ball at the Ritz-
Carlton recently. The event
was sponsored by
Maccabees Life Insurance
and President Jules
Pallone attended with his
wife Mary. Other opera
devotees included: Alan
and Marianne Schwartz,
Peter and Shelly Cooper,
the David Jacknows,
Reva Kogan, Michael and
