There were only five Jewish families in town. Her family was active in the synagogue located 18 miles away. As a child and teenager, Zuroff worked with her parents in the family business, a clothing store. Her parents always encouraged her to socialize with Jewish children. She became active in the synagogue youth group and fre- quently went out of town for conven- tions. "I was never home and my Jewish identity became central to my ex- istence," she recalls. During the sum- mers she attended Camp Nahelu and Camp Seagull, where she met her hus- band, Arnold. After she was graduated from Tiffen Columbian High School in 1959, she at- tended Ohio State University. Her col- lege education was interrupted when she married her husband, who was in- ducted into the army after dental school graduation. They also sent their children to a Jewish day school. When they returned to Detroit, Zuroff enrolled her children in Akiva Hebrew Day School. Her five children attended the school. Zuroff credits Rabbi Shaiall Zachariasch of Shomrey Emunah with encouraging the family to be involved in the community. Zuroff began her volunteer work with Alpha Omega, a dental auxiliary. Today she is on the national board of directors of Amit Women and active in
