Kay began her comedy
career in Detroit in the 1970s.
Upon relocating to Los
Angeles, Kay was chosen for
stand-up spots on such televi-
sion shows as NBC's "George
Schlatter's Comedy Club,"
Fox TV's "Comic Strip Live"
and A&E Network's "Even-
ing at the Improv."
Last year, she returned to
Detroit to open for Kenny
Loggins at The Palace.

Friede Appears
In 'La 'ftaviata'

Soprano Stephanie Friede
will play the role of Violetta
in La Traviata 8 p.m. May 11
at Masonic Temple.
In the summer of 1989,
Friede sang the first Violetta
of her career in the Glim-
merglass Opera's production
of La Traviata, directed by
Jonathan Miller.
Plans for her 1989-90
season include debuts with
the New York City Opera as
Mimi in La Boheme; the Col-
ogne Opera in her first perfor-
mance as Marguerite in
Faust; and with the Min-
nesota Opera as Juliette in
Romeo et Juliette. In February
of 1990, Stephanie Friede per-
formed at the Prague Opera
Gala with Francisco Araiza.
In addition, she was heard as
Mimi with the Edmonton
Opera; as Violetta with
Opera Pacific and Michigan
Opera Theater; and she will
perform her first Donna An-
na in Don Giovanni.
