Rules For Tools

So how well the tools work
is more important than
how good they look. CoopetTools of-
fers the following rules for tool
selection:
Buy high quality tools. Cheap ver-
sions, more often than not, prove the
adage about getting what you pay for.
Buy tools that feel comfortable.
Before you pay for the tool, handle it.
Is it too heavy? Is it well balanced?
Buy a pair of safety glasses or gog-
gles and good work gloves for your
tool kit. It's a good idea to get into the
habit of wearing safety glasses and
gloves whenever you work with tools
especially hammers and other strik-
ing tools.
Keep the tools clean by wiping them
with a coat of light oil before replacing
them in the tool box or hanging them
up on a peg board.
When it comes to specific tools,
CooperTools recommends a 16-ounce
hammer as the most useful for chores
around the house; a set of screwdrivers
with cushion grips for better comfort
and higher torque, i.e., the force re-
quired to turn a screw; one good ad-
justable wrench rather than several
open-end wrenches. A 10-inch ad-
justable wrench that opens to one and
one-eighth inch is large enough for
most repairs, including leaky faucets.

onolulu tops the nation in
home prices in a survey re-
leased recently by the Na-
tional Association of
Realtors.
At $280,900, the median price for a
Honolulu home is about $20,000 more
than second-place San Francisco.
Orange County, Calif., was third at
nearly $250,000; Los Angeles was
fourth at $217,000.
The survey showed the median
price of a Honolulu home would buy
six homes in Peoria, Ill., which had the
nation's lowest median price.
The national median for the fourth
quarter of 1989 was $92,000, about a
third of Honolulu's cost.
