When designing the interior of a
home, the client's most important in-
vestment is a good working floor plan.
Preferably, the client should consult
an interior designer from the onset,
that is before the architectural plans
are finalized, because the designer's
job is to understand a client's desires,
organize needs and ultimately, to
create a lifestyle. Many times this in-
cludes changing an interior space,
designing built-in cabinets, as well as
providing a lighting plan.
After the floor plan is finalized, the
background colors can be chosen.
This includes floor treatments, bath fix-
tures, tile and paint. The key word to
the above selections is "simplicity." It
is much less costly to change "the
harvest gold sink." White or almond
are usually the best choice. All the
specifications and a good floor plan
cost approximately $1,500.
Next is the furniture layout. This will
be the client's outline to work toward
completing the entire design concept.
From the floor plan, clients can furnish
their home room-by-room, piece-by-
piece. However, it is important to stay
focused on one room and complete it
before going on to the next.
