the large size of the great room by us-
ing a diagonal furniture arrangement.
The Bernhardt sofa and love seat, in
an ivory William Morris damask, could
be arranged parallel to each other in
front of the fireplace. These pieces
have generous proportions, luxurious
fabric, plump throw pillow backs, roll-
ed arms, and are skirted. The sofa is
$1,142 and the love seat is $1,051.
At right angles to the sofa and love
seat could sit two "Empire" chairs by
Century, which are finished in a glossy
black lacquer with a gold detail of
dolphins on the arms. The seats and
backs are upholstered in a leopard
tapestry fabric in ivory, taupe and
black. Each chair is $950.
To repeat the animal theme, add a
contemporary cocktail table with lucite
tusks set on brass balls with a custom
square-round top of 3 /4 inch beveled
glass. The price of the table is $1,430.
Put a touch of ancient classicism in
the dining room with a neo-classic
table that has a fluted stone column
pedestal with an oak leaf capital in an
"ancient black" finish. The round glass
top is 48 inches. Surround the table
with four Thayer-Coggin chairs
upholstered in a Napoleanic cream
and black stripe cotton sateen. The
chairs are armless, have dressmaker
skirts and rolled backs. The price for
four chairs is $1,892; the table is
$1,237. Complete the dining room with
a mirrored buffet by Ello with brass
moulding at the base. This piece con-
trasts the rough stone finish of the
table. The price of the buffet is $1,355.
The ivory and black color scheme
flows into the master bedroom and is
dramatized in a queen size black iron
poster bed. The bed is $639; the mat-
ching night stand is $285. The con-
trasting elements are a clean lined
ivory lacquer imported dresser and a
matching armoire which can be
modified to house a television. The
cost of the dresser is $899; the armoire
is $699.
The theme of contrast is also
displayed in the den/bedroom with a
contemporary sleeper in an ivory and
black textured fabric ($799) and a
matte black iron cocktail table in a leaf
design from D.I.A. ($445). A textured
