$15,000. In 1989, the average cost of a new home was $99,326
according to the Oakland County County Planning Depart-
ment, and that's without decorations.
There's no doubt that decorations are costly, but an interior designer
can direct clients on how to spend their money wisely while furnishing
a home.
We've asked four top design firms in our area to use a budget of $15,000
a realistic and generous sum — to decorate a new condominium in
Sierra Pointe. Here are their suggestions.

With a budget of $15,000 for the interior design of a condo, Mark
Morganroth, A.S.I.D, of Sherwood Studios, Southfield and West Bloom-
field, can create an environment that is both dramatic and functional.
No matter how large or small the budget, the first thing to do is a floor
plan of each of the rooms. This is done to best work out the placement
of furniture to suit the clients' needs.
You can do a sharp designer look for a moderate price using less ex-
pensive furniture. As an example, instead of a Henredon sectional, you
can use Bernhardt. This will give the same look and style at half the price.
To keep the budget reasonable, we would suggest using paint colors
in place of papering in large areas. We would paper the kitchen and
bathrooms to creat a dramatic look in these areas.
