Besides prefabricated kits, many
companies are willing to work with
customers in choosing a style or
designing a composite of several
styles.
Companies build a gazebo first in
the shop, then disassemble it to deliver
it in sections. Each piece has already
been fitted, and they'll all fit well
together. If you build the gazebo in
pieces, and try to assemble the pieces
for the first time on your lawn, you're
going to have problems.
This modular prefabrication policy is
common among reputable dealers,
from Dalton Pavilions in Philadelphia to
the local Church's Lumber. Jerry
Dalton, of Dalton Pavilions, says, "Our
gazebos are preassembled in the
largest possible components that can
be shipped. We preshingle the roof
with cedar shakes; we ship the side
panels entire. Two men can assemble
the gazebo in a day with no cutting."
For those who don't want to do it
themselves or to have workers all over
the lawn, some stores offer an alter-
native: ship the gazebo entirely
assembled and settle it in its appointed
spot by crane.
Once you have spent long after-
noons relaxing in the shady privacy of
your gazebo, the idea of moving and
leaving it behind borders on the un-
thinkable. No problem: pack it up and
take it with you. Or, if you've got a new
landscaping scheme in mind and want
to place the gazebo elsewhere, take it
apart and move it. Because gazebos
require little to no ground preparation
(other than some leveling), they can be
erected directly on grass or gravel.
And because the new prefabricated
models are built for ease of construc-
tion, they are equally easy to
disassemble.

Conservatories

According to the American Heritage
Dictionary of the English Language, a
conservatory is "a small, glass-
enclosed room or greenhouse, usually
part of a dwelling, in which plants are
raised or displayed." According to
dealers, this definition can be stretched
to include glassed-in wooden additions
(sunrooms) and all-glass solaria, in ad-
