David Syme
Plays Varner Hall
Pianist David Syme will
present "Thunder, Lightning
and Passion, The Romantic
Era" in concert at Oakland
University 3 p.m. May 20 in
Varner Recital Hall.
Syme, a Chopin specialist,
will perform that composer's
"Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor, -
Op. 35," "Two Etudes," "Two
Waltzes," "Two Mazurkas"
and "Scherzo No. 1 in B
minor, Op. 20."
Also on the program are
"Fantasia on Themes from
`Les Huguenots of Myeyer-
beer' " by Sigismond
Thalberg, "Arabesque in C
major" by Schumann and
"Two Transcendental
Etudes" by Liszt.
Syme has performed exten-
sively throughout the United
States and in Europe.
The concert is the final per-
formance of the season in the
Virtuoso Piano Series spon-
sored by the Center for the
Arts.

Boston Symphony
Plays Detroit
The Chamber Music Socie-
ty of Detroit will present The
Boston Symphony Chamber
Players in concert at Or-
chestra Hall, 8 p.m. May 11.
The program will feature
works by C.P.E. Bach, Bartok,
Lerdahl and Mozart.
The Boston Symphony
Chamber Players, an ensem-
ble made up of 12 of the
Boston Symphony Orchestra's
principal players, have won
international acclaim for the
high level of performance.
The group has traveled to
South America, Europe, the
Soviet Union and Japan.
