hIllside about two-thirds of the Falcons' games last year, hit- ting .300. But his key value, says coach Jim Crosby, is his glove-work. "Real good defensive player. He played some third, played some shortstop and second base and this year he'll pro- bably play second base most of the time and occasionally play shortstop. He's just a good ballplayer. He's got a great pair of hands. Good, steady defensive player and a good, steady hitter." Crosby describes Stutz as a line-drive hitter and a good baserunner with above- average speed. Sophomore third baseman Jason Katz is probably Groves' leading JV prospect. "He's a real good defensive third baseman," says Crosby. He's going to probably be our leading hitter on the JV." Katz, who also pitches, beat Ferndale's JV with a five- hitter in his first start this year. "For a sophomore, he throws O.K.," says Crosby. "Not overpowering, but a real smart kid and a good hard worker. He's played a lot of ball and he's a good com- petitor, so he knows what he's doing." Crosby expects Katz to be the Falcons' starting var- sity third baseman next season. Andover has a young team and a new head coach, Tom Headblum, who will rotate most of his players into the starting lineup. Among those players is a brother- combination, Manny and Paul Valdivieso. Manny, a senior, is a pit- cher/infielder who is a solid hitter. "Very well-disciplined young man," says Headblum, who also coached Valdivieso on this year's football team. "Excellent attitude, extreme- ly coachable." Paul, a sophomore center- fielder, can also play second base' and catcher. He has "ex- cellent speed," says Headblum. Two other starters are juniors Jason Odesky, the shortstop, and first- baseman/outfielder Marc Rothenberg. Odesky has "been hitting the ball and is making a lot of plays for us," says Headblum, although the youngster still needs con- sistency on defense. , furniture clearance center contemporary for less A pair of junior outfielders who see playing time are Mike Widlansky and Rob Snavely. Both need to work on their hitting, says Headblum. They are a "part of that young regime that we have." A future Barons' prospect is 6-foot-31/2 sophomore Aaron Goldberger, a pitcher/in- fielder. "He's got a little ways to go yet," says Headblum, who expects good things from Goldberger._ ❑ BB Women's Bowling Results April 25, 1990 COSMO-BLOCH High Game 201 Norma Lichtman High Series 540 Norma Lichtman 501 Phyllis Collins CENTENNIAL High Game 214 Ida Glass High Series 544 Rochelle Solomon 520 Ida Glass 515 Miryam Gun 500 Lillian Stein ISRAEL ALL-CITY High Series 507 Sharon Winans GALILEE THURSDAY High Games 223-206 Susan Richards 205 Leslie Ben Ezra High Series 533 Leslie Ben Ezra 523 Sandy Ribiat 509 Susan Richards ZEIGER High Games Lois Forman Charlotte Gorman Rita Shamis Lynn Simon High Series Lynn Simon Ann Siegel Lois Forman 211 205 201 201 535 533 502 Mix and match any combination of pieces!
