teens is under new
leadership.
Faith Tam has replaced
Vivian Friedman as director
of the Jewish Community
Center's Teen Connection
program for 12- and 13-year-
olds. Friedman resigned in
mid-April after six months
in the position.
Tam has worked at the
center since October as the
coordinator for the
Discovery Room for Jewish
Experiences - a learning
area for children between
the ages of three and seven.
She will continue working
on the program in addition
to her duties as Teen Con-

take a different approach to
the Center's teen programm-
ing by following a model
used by other centers around
the country.
When Friedman was
hired, she divided her time
between Teen Connection
and coordinating the
Center's activities for
students from the ages of 14-
18, Oliff said.
While Tam will take over
the Teen Connection duties,
the remaining teen pro-
grams will be split among
the Center's physical edu-
cation, cultural arts and ed-
ucation departments, Oliff
said. By expanding the other
departments, the teen direc-
tor is no longer expected to
be an expert in each field.
As the director, Tam must
create one program for 12-
and 13-year-olds each
month and do publicity. JCC
staff member and former
teen director Leanie Gunz-
berg will assist Tam.
Tam, who has a degree in
elementary education from
Michigan State University,
had prior experience
creating programs for sixth,
seventh and eighth grade

Joel Bainerman, business
writer for the Jerusalem Post
will speak at the Einstein
Luncheon Forum noon May 8
at Southfield Charley's.
The topic will be "The
Soviet Jewish Exodus and the
Future of Israel." He is cor-
respondent for The Journal of
Commerce, Middle East
Magazine and the West Palm
Beach Post. He is researching
the economic impact of Soviet
Jewish immigration to Israel.
