of the '90s

The Michigan Ballet Foun-
dation will hold a series of
classical ballet master classes
to be held May 5-6 at the
Lascu School of Ballet, 782
Denison Ct., Bloomfield Hills.
Classes will be conducted
by artists Veronica Tennant of
the National Ballet Company
of Canada, and Oleg Brain-
sky, founder and direct of
the Saratoga Ballet Center in
New York.
In conjunction with the
Master Class Session, audi-
tions will be held May 6 for
the second Maria Lascu
Memorial Scholarship
Awards Competition.
Both the classes and com-
petition are open to dancers of
intermediate and advanced
abilities who reside in
Michigan and are between
12-18. The competition is
limited to the first 25
qualified applicants.

Jazz Is, an original music pro-
duction, as part of its Monday
night "Great Detroit Jazz
Reunion" series 8:30 p.m.
May 14. Co-written by Miche
Braden and Harold McKin-
ney, Jazz Is encapsulates the
history of jazz.
In a light-hearted, cabaret-
style presentation, Jazz Is
will present jazz standards by
Frank Loesser, Oscar Brown
Jr., Jelly Roll Morton, Irving
Berlin, Scott Joplin, Charlie
Parker, Billy Holiday, Fats
Waller, Bessie Smith and
others, along with original
compositions.

Dinner Concert
At Masonic

The Brazeal Dennard
Chorale will present its 4th
annual Spring Pops Dinner
Concert June 9 in the Foun-
tain Ballroom of Masonic
Temple. A cocktail hour will
begin at 6 p.m., followed by
dinner at 7:30 p.m.
After dinner, the Chorale
will perform a program of
music by George Gershwin,
Rogers and Hammerstein,
Leonard Bernstein, Scott
Joplin and other composers.
Instrumental music for the
cocktail hour and dinner will
be provided by pianist Alvin
Waddles and the Earl Van
Dyke Trio of Detroit.
There is a charge.
