DFT Films
Close Season

The Detroit Film Theatre of
the Detroit Institute of Arts
ends its season with four
presentations. All screenings
take place in the DIA
Auditorium.
On May 4-5, The Enter-
tainer, a 1960 film by English
director Ibny Richardson, will
be shown. This film stars
Laurence Olivier as Archie
Rice — the lewd, angry,
second-rate vaudevillian at
the heart of John Osborne's
stinging vision of England.
Screenings take place at 7
and 9:30 p.m. on Friday and
5, 7, and 9:30 p.m. on
Saturday.
Near Death, directed by
Frederick Wiseman, is about
families, patients, doctors and
nurses at Boston's Beth Israel
Hospital. It has a one-day
screening at the DFT on May
6 at 1 p.m.
On May 11-12, Black Rain
will be screened. Not to be
confused with the Michael
Douglas cop movie, this is a
portrait of a Japanese fami-
ly's effort at coming to grips
with the unexpected legacy of
Hiroshima a decade after the
bomb. Screening times at 7
and 9:30 p.m. on Friday and
Saturday.
Tribute to Josephine Baker,
a double feature presentation
starring the St. Louis-born
Baker, a superstar of the
French cabaret circuit in the
1920s, returns on May 13.
Baker will be featured in two
musicals: Zou Zou and
Princess Tam Tam. Screening
times are 3 and 7 p.m.

May 6 with a performance of
Carl Orff's Carmina Burana
in Warren Woods Community
Theater.
