Yiddish Literature
Lecture To Be Held

The fifth annual Morris and
Sarah Friedman Lecture on
Yiddish Language and
Culture will take place at 2
p.m. April 29 at the LaMed
Auditorium at the United
Hebrew Schools building.
Professor Eugene Orenstein
of the Department of Jewish
Studies at McGill University
in Montreal will speak on
"Women's Voices in Yiddish
Poetry." The lecture is in
English with readings in Yid-
dish. Prof. Orenstein has
written and lectured on the
Jewish labor movements,
history of the Yiddish press,
Soviet Jewish literature, and
the literature of several Yid-
dish poets and authors.
There is no charge.

Sets Meeting Date

Hillel Day School has an-
nounced that Cantor Louis
Klein will retire from his
teaching position at the end
of the school year.
Cantor Klein has been
teaching bar and bat mitzvah
students at Hillel for 24 years
when he started with the
school's first bar mitzvah
class.
Cantor Klein is the Cantor
of Congregation B'nai Moshe,
where he will continue
leading the services.
Cantor Klein will be
recognized for his many years
of service to Hillel Day School
at The Hillel Annual Dinner
on May 2.

Three faculty members,
Judith Herman, Yolette Jaffe
and Alicia Tisdale will be
recognized for their 25 years
of service to Hillel Day School
at the school's annual dinner.
Mrs. Herman, a third grade
teacher who has also taught
second grade at Hillel first ap-
plied to the school as a
substitute.
Mrs. Jaffe has taught 7th

through 9th grade math at
the school. Under her
guidance Hillel students have
won recognition in
mathematics competitions
and advanced placement in
their high school and college
math courses.
Dr. Tisdale started at Hillel
teaching kindergarten and
over the next 25 years added
a master's degree and a doc-
torate, and ultimately a
career change. Dr. Tisdale has
the distinction of being the
only Hillel staff member to
have earned her doctorate
while teaching at the school.
Dr. Tisdale is the school
psychologist at Hillel, after
teaching kindergarten for 22
years.

fraternity at Michigan State
