The Center for Jewish
Creativity and Exploration at
the Jewish Community
Center, Maple-Drake, will
host Ruth Volk, art historian
and Suzie Russek-Osherov,
Israeli poet, historian and ar-
tist, in a four week series.
Volk, formerly arts and
culture radio reporter for Kol
Yisrael, is a graduate of
Hebrew University in
Jerusalem. Her topic is
"Milestones in Israeli Art."
This lecture/slide presenta-
tion will trace the develop-
ment of artistic expression in
Israel since the beginning of
this century to the present. A
comparison between Israeli
and International art will be
illustrated.
Russek-Osherov
im-
migrated to Israel in 1950
from Poland. Her poetry has
been published in several
languages and her art has
been exhibited in Israel,
Europe and the United
States. Her topic is "Anti-
Semitism, A Historic Perspec-
tive." She will cover the
development of superstition,
negative stereotypes, witch-
craft and blood libels, Jewish-
Christian relations in the
Middle Ages, anti-Semitism
in the 19th century and the
development of racist theory.
Volk will speak April 25,
May 9, 16 and 23. Russek-
Osherov will speak April 26,
May 3, 10 and 17.

Plans Dinner

Marvin Fleischman, vice
chairman of the board of
trustees of Sinai Hospital;
and Harris Mainster, depart-
ment chairman for surgery at
Botsford General Hospital,
have accepted the roles of co-
chairmen of a tribute dinner
honoring the presidents of the
hospitals.
The dinner, 6 p.m. May 23
at the Dearborn Hyatt Regen-
cy and sponsored by the Pro-
fessional Health Services
Division of State of Israel
Bonds, will pay tribute to
Gerson I. Cooper, president of
Botsford, and Robert A.
Steinberg, president of Sinai,
in recognition of outstanding
service to the community and
to Israel.
The honorees will be
presented with State of Israel
Maimonides Awards at the
event.
