The Jewish Community Council and The Jewish Educators Council announce the second annual Youth Yom HaShoah program at Congregation Dovid Ben Nuchim. The completion of the study of the entire Talmud is a pro- ject that was initiated nearly sixty-seven years ago by Rab- bi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, Poland. He sought to promote the study of Torah, especially among laymen. Afraid that Talmudic study would be reserved for scholars, Rabbi Shapiro instituted a program of studying one page of the Talmud per day. The uninter- rupted pursuit of the Talmud's 2,711 pages would be concluded in seven and one-half years. Study groups meet daily in the Detroit area to participate in the Daf Yomi. Groups are located at Congregatin Dovid Ben Nuchim, Congregation Beth Tefilo Emanuel Tikvah, Congregation B'nai Israel, Congregation Shomrei Emunah, Yeshiva Gedola Ateres Mordechai, the Kollel Institute of Detroit and Young Israel of Southfield. The Daf Yomi celebration will be highlighted with a dinner. Men and women are invited to attend. For reserva- tions, call the Vaad HaRab- bonim, 559-5005.
