Stk. #4241. to destroy the land of our fathers. The Bush people gave the PLO a clean bill of health - making them lawfully accep- table - by staging a reading by PLO leader Yassir Arafat of an American-prepared statement saying the PLO op- poses terrorism and accepts the right of Israel to exist. With those magic words, the PLO's slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent people was completely forgiven. Not only that, but the PLO is to be rewarded for those words by being given the territory captured by Israel in the 1967 war. That is the goal of the ad- ministration's " peace- process." The Bush administration is blatantly and outrageously lying - betraying Israel to its enemies. And most of our Jewish community leaders are letting them get away with those lies. We Jews are our own worst enemy! TON PICK-UP 112 4.3 V-6, 160 H.P., auto., AM radio, p.s., p.b., P235/75R15 steel belted radial tires, H.D. chassis, H.D. shocks, large mir- rors, cloth seat and more. Based on approved credit 28111 TELEGRAPH AT 12 MILE & 1-696 SOUTHFIELD 10 FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 1990 In addition to some of the concerns about President George Bush's administra- tion's recent pronouncements concerning the "stalemate in Jerusalem," I'd like to em- phasize the following: The President's statement that there should be no "new set- tlements in the West Bank or in East Jerusalem" is a con- tradiction to the long- standing American policy that the final status of Jerusalem is to be determin- ed by negotiation and that there should be no return to the 1967 borders. A U.S. policy opposing settlements in Jerusalem never existed per se. No previous President has declared opposition to Jews residing in any parts of Jerusalem. The subsequent "clarifica- tion" by the President did not allay our concern. It did not relieve us of the feeling that his comments reflected, or were leading to, a change of policy. The Jewish communi- ty is and should be united in our rejection of such a change and in our concern to its im- plications. And we should let our President know that East Jerusalem is a part of Israel and not of the West Bank, that Soviet Jews can settle wherever they wish in Israel (so far only about 1 percent has chosen to settle in East Jerusalem, and hardly any evidence exists that more will settle there) and that Israel "can have confidence in its most reliable ally and friend." For Israel to "take risks for peace," the President and his administration must reassure the Israelis and the American Jewish community that Israel's security will not be jeopardized and its rights will not be usurped. Louis Panush Southfield Project Achim Is Mobilizing Thank you for the coverage that our Project Achim has received in your newspaper. We are very proud that the community as a whole has been able to mobilize together to assist our new neighbors into the community. It is our privilege to be a part of that effort. Inadvertently, Akiva and NCSY, two of our member agencies of the Achim project were left out of the advertise- ment we ran in The Jewish News last week. Both groups are working hard toward our goal of welcoming the new families and are very much a part of our mutual efforts.
