'Les Miz'
Music Performed

The Oakland Community
College Chorus and the
Renaissance Voices have
scheduled 8 p.m. April 24, as
the date of the next concert,
"Do You Hear the People
Sing," in the auditorium of
Harrison High School in Far-
mington Hills.
The Harrison High School
Orchestra, under the direc-
tion of Mark Phillips, will ac-
company the chorus.
The chorus, conducted by G.
Kevin Dewey, will perform
selections from the classics to
contemporary including the
concert title song from the hit
musical, Les Miserables.
The Renaissance Voices are
a professional madrigal group
originated and directed by
Dewey and have performed
throughout the area.
There is a charge. For infor-

`La Traviata'
At Masonic

Detroit audiences will be
the first to hear the North
American operatic debut of
young Romanian tenor Florin
Georgescu following his re-
cent departure from Romania
to the United States.
Georgescu will sing the role of
Alfredo in Michigan Opera
Theatre's presentation of Ver-
di's La Traviata for one per-
formance only, 8 p.m. May 11
at the Masonic Temple. He
will sing opposite the Violet-
ta of American soprano
Stephanie Friede. The show
runs May 5-12.
Well-known to Eastern
European and Soviet au-
diences, Georgescu made his
career as a leading tenor with
the Romanian Opera and has
performed throughout East-
ern block countries as well as
with the Bolshoi Opera. Dur-
ing the regime of Nicolae
Ceausescu, Georgescu was -
not permitted to perform in
the West.
